Celebrating 100 Years - A Year of Celebration

For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has created a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for millions of America’s youth. Through A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference, we will demonstrate the incredible impact of a century of living the Scout Law.

Program participants will earn recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting’s core values: Leadership, Character, Community Service, Achievement, and the Outdoors. Participants will be able to earn our 100th Anniversary commemorative patch.

A Year of Celebration will take place from September 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010. The program is open to all Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and Scouting alumni. Read the patch requirements to learn more.

Additionally, the BSA has also teamed up with some great organizations to offer unique 100th Anniversary service projects that can apply towards your Year of Celebration Service award. These national opportunities will truly show what Scouts can do when they band together towards a shared goal.

For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has created a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for America’s youth. Through A Year of Celebration, we celebrate this legacy and commit ourselves to inspire and prepare future generations.

Re: State of Michigan Central Registry Clearance
Date: May 18, 2009
As you may know, there has been a great deal of anxiety over the recent changes that govern the licensing of our camps by the State of Michigan. In trying to balance the spirit of the new regulations with good common sense and a sincere desire to ensure the safety and welfare of our staff, leaders, campers, and visitors to our camps, I would like to clarify what you can expect at camp this summer upon your arrival.
The Lake Huron Area Council will require that all members of our council staff and camp staff, aged 21 and older, to be cleared by the Central Registry/State of Michigan.
Resident unit leaders and day visitors to our camps, however, will not be required to be cleared by the Central Registry/State of Michigan. Our camps will maintain and enforce the current BSA 2-Deep Leadership policy of two registered adult leaders or one registered leader and a parent of a participant, one of whom must be 21 years of age or older, are required on all trips and outings. We will also maintain and enforce our current visitor policy which requires all visitors to camp to check in/out at the camp office and wear the appropriate wrist band during their stay with us.
Nothing is more important to me than the safety and well being of everyone on our camp properties. I apologize for the confusion created by us in trying to follow the camp licensing regulations as established by the State. In the end, I believe our camps will continue to provide you and your Scouts a safe environment in which to enjoy the Scouting program.
